Big 5s

“Of all the animals, I would place the cheetah as my favourite, as it’s a true specialist. The power and energy of this great cat makes it special for me. As a nature photographer, I have been lucky enough to photograph them on many occasions, and in these last 15 years, I’ve also seen the decline of the species.

Cheetahs have suffered a huge decline. Not only do they have to fight with lions, hyenas and leopards, but their biggest problems are the loss of habitat outside the reserves, due to human pressure, conflicts with livestock and poaching.

Of the 7,100 cheetahs that still exist in the wild, only around 30 per cent live in protected areas.

For me, it’s a special moment when you can photograph little pups with their mother, always attentive to everything. You always know that games and tender scenes with their mother will happen.

For me, the cheetah is number one because it reminds us of the need to stay connected to nature and seek protection for wildlife beyond the wildlife reserve areas.”
