“I love hedgehogs. I always have. Ever since I saw my first one through the kitchen doors at my parents’ house in Sussex, in south-east England.
Hedgehogs aren’t thought of as exotic or obviously beautiful animals, with their sharp spines, little snouts and beady eyes, but they are a quintessential part of the UK countryside.
Because we rarely see them – they appear from the undergrowth as if by magic – I have always been enchanted and mesmerised by these little creatures.
I think it’s really important for all of us to remember that you don’t have to go overseas to see wonderful species. Some are right here on our doorstep if only we choose to look.”
