CEO, Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation

“My Number One favourite animal to photograph is certainly the orangutan. Years ago, when I first started to work for an orangutan conservation programme, a colleague of mine told me something that tickled me at that time. He said, “Don’t ever look them in their eyes, or you’re going to be sorry.”

I didn’t know what he meant, and curious as I was, I deliberately looked at one orangutan’s eyes the first chance I had. Lo, it struck me: I fell in love with them instantly, a love at first sight.

Their black, round eyes are just full with emotion. They’re deep, as if they’re telling you a lot of things. That was in 2008 and still today I’m working hard to save and protect them. That’s true love.”
