Big 5s

Elizabeth Tolu Ojo

Director of Operations, ALU School of Wildlife Conservation

“My favourite animal to see in the wild and in photographs has to be the springbok, especially the male springbok. The combination of brown and white stripes on beige, topped off with elegant horns on a dainty frame, looks incredibly. Funnily, I’ve recently found myself thinking about fashion lines with those same colours and combinations when watching them in the wild.

Springboks are abundant on safari, so people give them very little time or attention, whereas their social structure is fascinating. Watching a bachelor herd wander in search of mates can draw parallels to us two-legged creatures.

Their ability to survive when they are so low on the food chain also astounds me. They must be grateful just to make it through each day. And what could be more elegant than watching a springbok pronk through water?”
