“My number one subject to photograph is the African elephant. I’ve been fascinated by elephants ever since I was a little child and this fascination grows stronger the more I spend time with them and photograph them.
Elephants embody the soul of the African wilderness. Watching them walk across an African landscape takes me away from the ‘here and now’ to a place and time where wildlife ruled the Earth, unbound by human presence and pressure. They fill the landscape and give it life like no other creature.
Nothing excites me more than encountering one of the few remaining mighty great tuskers, so rare and secretive. I love watching elephants’ interactions and seeing the complexity of their social lives, from bulls’ groups to families with calves.”
