Big 5s

“My favourite animal to photograph is the gorilla. If I had to choose, I’d single out the lowland gorilla.

I’ve had the privilege of working in different areas of Central Africa, from Rwanda to Gabon and in-between. Throughout this journey, gorillas have always held a special place for me.

I’ve visited numerous habituated groups in Rwanda and Congo, and had many encounters with unhabituated gorillas. Every single encounter has been rewarding, humbling and hugely inspiring. The interactions between individuals are varied, playful and always entertaining. The personalities of the big silverbacks, gentle giants, who are often very patient and affectionate with young and more turbulent members of the group, is something to witness.

One is almost certainly transformed by an encounter with these close relatives of ours.”
