Helen Buckland
Director, Sumatran Orangutan Society

“I have pored over and collected wildlife photography books since a young age, whilst I find big cats captivating, my absolute favourite images are of the great apes and, perhaps unsurprisingly, orangutans.
Portraits of wild orangutans that capture the gentle, soulful wisdom in their eyes are hard to beat. Images that portray the profound bond between a mother and her infant are incredibly special, too.
Having had the privilege of spending time in the Sumatran rainforest in the company of these majestic creatures, I know how tricky it can be to spot them in the forest canopy, so I also greatly admire photographs that tell the story of orangutans being an integral part of their precious ecosystem.”
