Big 5s

“My favourite animal to photograph is without doubt the polar bear. The playful endearing moments of family groups can warm even the coldest of scenes in the Arctic, in contrast with the power of sparring males that add a spark of excitement to the beautiful but otherwise quiet landscape.

Aside from being charismatic and beautiful to photograph, to me their story is one that affects all creatures on Earth including humans. I felt their vulnerability beneath me and witnessed the rapid decay of seasonal ice for myself when I camped on the sea ice for two weeks. Their habitat loss is not from a physical invasion of industries and cities, but rather the seemingly invisible hand of climate change.

Polar bears exist at the frontlines of our battle with climate change. Telling their story in the hope of inspiring change towards a more sustainable existence for humans on the planet is in every way a conservation effort for all species.”
