Big 5s

“As someone who has devoted my life to the study and conservation of the tiger, for me, no other cat can come close to matching the sheer majesty of this big cat. Every encounter leaves me awed by their grace, power and beauty.

Tigers cannot be stereotyped and each has such a strong individual character. Supreme predators, fiercely protective mothers, gentle tolerant fathers and yet with an innate sense of the curious, their voices touch the soul of every human fortunate enough to hear them.

I have met and interacted with many of their species over the years, some of whom I have come to know personally. The incredible family life of these solitary cats, the vividness of their colouring, the magnificence of their size and the expressions on their face and eyes make them the perfect subject for photography.

Over the years I have discovered how they use tools, how the mother will teach her young to eat meat and hunt, the unforgiving protection offered by the territorial males, and the dignity with which they lead their lives. Nothing ever quite matches up to meeting an adult wild tiger in their own space.”
