“I have to say that jaguars top the list as my favourite animal to see through my lens. It’s an incredible beast, unlike any other animal I’ve ever photographed. They are incredibly photogenic, and their environment is stunning and adds beauty to every frame.

These cats hunt most during the light of day when their main prey, such as caiman and capybara, come on to the sand banks to bask. This gives me, as the photographer, the opportunity to see them in action during daylight hours and well into the early evening at dusk. They are very active and there’s always something to photograph.

It’s such an iconic animal and it’s hard to fathom that a place such as Brazil’s Pantanal exists, where you can see these big cats in action on a near daily basis. They are shy and elusive but the Pantanal’s made it possible to see them within their natural environments and to capture incredible images of them. Right now, they stand out as my favourite photographic subjects.”
