Big 5s

“Without any doubt, my favourite animal to photograph is the mountain gorilla. These gentle giants are the stuff that legends are made of.

When people ask me what they are like, my answer is quite simply that they are all the good that we wish to see in another person. Their presence alone creates feelings that encompass fear and compassion and every other emotion in-between.

To sit within a few feet of a majestic 500-pound Silverback and to experience the tolerance and curiosity that they have for us is something that you simply can’t explain adequately to someone who has not yet been to see them.

With them sharing 98.4 per cent of our genetic make-up, to me, photographing them is more a case of photographing someone than something.”
