“The wolf is my favourite animal to photograph because it is so difficult and because it has such a connection to myths, legends, symbols and stories that we have heard since childhood.
I love to see wolves in real life and to try to photograph them. Once I spent 13 weeks in a hide trying to get some successful photos, which I didn’t at that time. Luckily, I have been a bit more successful over the last ten years.
An expedition to the Tibetan high plateau in China also gave me a lot of new chances to experience wolves. In that open, high-altitude landscape, the wolves were not as shy as elsewhere, even if they kept their distance. But they were clearly visible at distances of 50 to 100 metres, every day, and we met with a family group of seven every morning, which was an incredible experience. Wolves are such beautiful animals to spend time with.
